Mary Bouchard, a native of the Thousand Islands area of New York State, has a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Alfred University, and an Master’s of Business Administration with a major in Accounting from the University of Chicago.
After completing her graduate degree, she worked in the treasury department of the largest hospital system in Chicago before moving back to New York State. Her professional experience since then has encompassed financial, accounting and administrative positions in hospitals, medical practices, non-profit organizations, and tax practices. In addition, she served as a small business advisor for an economic development organization in the Finger Lakes region, training entrepreneurs in business plan development, and assisting them with the preparation of financial forecasts and statements. She has also served as an adjunct faculty member at Ithaca College and Elmira College.
She was employed for six years as a financial/information systems auditor for Cornell University. In 1999 she became a Certified Information Systems Auditor, and in 2000 became a Certified Public Accountant in the state of New York.
Although she maintained a small clientele of tax clients for decades, in 2008, she opened her Trumansburg office, becoming a full-time tax accountant serving a wide variety of individual and business clients.
Currently, Mary is on the faculty of Ithaca College, teaching a tax practicum for students interested in preparing taxes for low- and moderate-income taxpayers through the VITA program. As part of the tax practicum assignment, she spends a week in Alaska during tax season doing volunteer tax preparation for native populations in remote villages.
Mary is a member of the Trumansburg Area Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club of Trumansburg, and has served on the Board of Directors of the Trumansburg Conservatory of Fine Arts, where she was treasurer. She is also a certified bicycle safety instructor with the League of American Bicyclists (and Treasurer of the Finger Lakes Cycling Club), and was a fitness instructor for eight years at Juniper Manor, senior residence apartments, in Trumansburg. She's also a hobbyist beekeeper with several beehives in the backyard. And after tax season, you can catch her on local public radio station WRFI, announcing the play-by-play action for the Ithaca League of Women Rollers roller derby team, for whom she officiated for three years under her derby name, “Smash Register”.
